In a way, this is it's own Anime exclusive thing. In that way, it's actually more similar to the Pokemon Musical from Unova then Contests but there are still several differences. In here, you need to show off more your Pokemon then their moves and you need to impress the crowd. In a Pokemon Contest, you had to show of your Pokemon's moves in dazzling ways in order to impress the judges. That's a rather interesting departure from what I expected from it and what Pokemon Contests were. Performers go three at a time and after they're done, the audience decides who moves on and who gets eliminated. So from what I understand of what's going on, performers perform in a bunch of rounds, each with a different theme to them. So I kinda hope to see more of that in this series.Īnyways, after a very small meet and greet and after seeing some celebrity come out of a limo, it's time for the Showcase to begin. Especially Brock's interactions with James. While Jessie in the contests didn't impress me at all, her and James in disguise interacting with the gang non-maliciously (for the most part) made for some of the most interesting interactions in the Diamond and Pearl series. Still, despite being a recycled plot, I'm not going to complain too much. Apparently deciding not to do Pokemon Contests anymore doesn't bar her from Pokemon Showcases. Though I might be biased with him using Squirtle while Ash has an Electric Type that's been through 5 and a half regions. And he's nowhere near the level of rivalry that Paul or (from what little I saw of him) Trip gave Ash. Funny how we've seen two (three if you want to count Jessie, but I don't) rivals for Serena yet Ash only has the dancing guy who's name escapes me. She is also entering so we get the start of their rivalry. Not that.that's really too relevant or anything but still.Īfter the opening we cut to everyone walking in the building heading towards registration when Shauna runs up to meet them. Speaking of openings, I've watched a couple of the Japanese openings. And.that's it before they cut to the opening theme. So this episode starts off with Serena showing off what she's going to wear for the performance.

Seriously, this anime has been going on for a year and a half and we're just now finally getting to the first Pokemon Showcase. 60 episodes in and we're finally getting to the start of Serena's performance carrier.
